Starting off my first blog post with an ikea hack!
This is the Bekväm spice rack from ikea, I will leave a link at the end of the blog. The spice rack is literally £3!
As you can see I was far too excited to start painting to actually take a picture before I’d begun, however, this picture does show all of the important components.
My idea for this product actually came from some research I was doing on pinterest. The plan is to turn the product upside down and use it as a shelf/ hanging rail… I will insert a finished picture which will hopefully explain better!
The vibrant colour is actually from the Valspar range which I found in my local B&Q. The valspar range is amazing. They can colour match any colour you want, I picked a colour from their colour wall, but you could take them a cushion and they could colour match it for you if you wanted to! Because the spice rack is so small I only needed a tester pot which only cost £3 and honestly after giving the product three coats I had barely used any of the paint!
The gold spray paint is also from my local B&Q, I bought the smallest size they do which is 150ml and cost £4.50, which is fairly expensive considering what I needed it for. However, it will definitely come in handy for future DIY ventures!
The paint brush is just from somewhere like wilko, I have had it for ages and its always been really good, I think it was fairly cheap, but any little paint brush will do the job!
The method…
This was so simple to create, I literally took all of the parts out of the box and worked out that the three pieces of wood needed to be painted green and the bar needed to be gold.
I then put all the pieces together- all by myself! Trust me anyone could assemble this product, its so simple to do!
Next, I asked my boyfriend very nicely if he could put in on the wall of our spare room for me, and here is the final product!
